Tennis Roundup: Singles sweep leads Swampscott over Masconomet

Behind a trio of dominant performances from its singles? competitors, the Swampscott (10-2) girls? team beat Masconomet, 3-2, Thursday afternoon.
Vivien Gere and Veronica Pyatigorskaya cruised to respective 6-1, 6-1 wins from the second and third singles? spots, upping their season records to 12-0, while No.1 Anna Raptunovich (10-2) won with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph.
?It?s always nice to get the match settled before the doubles team?s finish up,” said Big Blue (10-2) coach Nina Rogers who continues to seek answers in partners? play.
?From a doubles? standpoint, it?s been a bit frustrating lately but it?s good for our pairs to see quality competition,” Rogers said. “Masco is a good team with a lot of depth so hopefully (Thursday) serves as a solid learning experience.”
The hosts? top pairing of Anya Peterson and Michelle Shnayder played well, splitting sets one and two (0-6, 6-2) before falling in the finale (1-6). Juliette Albo and Sara Cunningham came up short from the second position, 2-6, 3-6.English 3, Salem 2
The Bulldogs (3-8) prevailed in thrilling fashion with the top pairing of Lily Vu and Jasmin Chhim clinching the win in the day?s final match, which required a tiebreaker (6-1, 4-6, 7-6, 7-4).
?(Vu and Chhim) play so well together and find ways to help each other out. This was a terrific, back-and-forth match to watch,” said English coach Lauren Mezzetti.

Freshman Kerry Kircher picked up a win (8-4) at first singles for the host Crusaders (9-3) who earned a doubles? sweep. The Magicians (9-1) got wins from top singles? Meg Ryan (6-2, 6-0), No. 2 Julia Channing (6-0, 6-0) and Meagan Hanratty (6-1, 6-0).
In doubles? action, Hannah Cohen and Sammi Gilberg prevailed 6-1, 6-0 while Jenny Norcross and Mia Griffin impressed in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph.BOYS? TENNIS

Wins from Jarry Ngandu at third singles (6-3, 7-5) and Johnson Ngandu/Andy Nguyen at second doubles (6-4, 6-4) weren?t enough for the host Bulldogs (1-7).
For the Witches (3-4), Guthrie Scrimgeour and Cole Jermyn picked up singles? victories from the first and second spots, respectively. Pete Duffy and Brandon Mustafaraja added a win at first singles (4-6, 6-4, 6-3).Masconomet 4, Swampscott 1
Junior Matt Jacobs continued his season-long dominance, providing the visiting Big Blue (5-4) with their lone point in a 6-2, 6-2 victory at first singles.
Wellesley 4, St. John?s Prep 1The host Eagles (9-2) fell despite a strong showing from the top doubles? pair of Mateo Jacome and David Cunningham (6-4, 4-6, 11-9).
