LYNN – A Fire Department spokesman said emergency medical responders could not save the life of a 57-year-old man who choked on food Friday afternoon at the Ancient Order of Hibernian hall.District Fire Chief Stephen Archer said the man was pronounced dead at Union Hospital.North Shore Medical Center, citing confidentiality information covered under federal health law, did not release the man’s identity.Fire officials said he was a Lynn resident.Archer said the man began choking while eating in the Federal Street club. Individuals at the scene attempted to administer the Heimlich maneuver while others called emergency 911.Firefighters from the Western Avenue fire station and Medic 1 emergency medical responders from the Highlands station converged on the club at 2:02 p.m.”When our crews arrived, he was turning blue from the chest up. They work on him diligently and were able to remove a large piece of meat but could not get to all of the obstruction,” Archer said.
