It was a classic pitchers? duel in Danvers Sunday night, with the Falcons finally stealing the win over Bishop Fenwick on a wild pitch, 1-0.
In the seventh inning, Devonn Allen singled, stole second. and was sacrificed to third before he scored on a wild pitch from Matt Haley to win it.
Haley got the loss despite giving up just three hits and striking out seven in a complete game effort.
?We pitched great today,” said Fenwick coach Kevin Canty. “We just couldn?t get it done with runners in scoring position.”
Andrew Olszak got the win in relief for Danvers, going 1 ? innings and giving up just one hit. Andrew Dunn got the start for the Falcons, going 5 ? inningd of one-hit ball with five strikeouts.
?It was a grind-it-out kind of game for us,” said Danvers coach Roger Day. “It was a great win.”
Peabody 5, Bishop Guertin (NH) 2
Powered by Mike Petrosino?s clutch triple, the Tanners (11-2) snapped a two-game losing streak Saturday in Peabody.
After giving up two unearned runs in the early innings, the Tanners came back to tie it at 2-2. Then, with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Petrosino stepped up with the bases loaded. After fouling off five pitches, he knocked a three-run triple to break the game open. He was 2-for-3 on the day.
?I was very happy with the way we came back,” said Peabody coach Mark Bettencourt. “The guys didn?t panic after giving up those early runs and they kept fighting.”
David Hoar got the win on the mound for Peabody, going six innings and giving up two unearned runs on four hits while striking out seven. Bobby Tramondozzi came in and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to record the save.
Kevin Lebel went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Ryan Collins added an RBI single.
?It just feels good to get back in the win column,” said Bettencourt.
Nauset 7, St. Mary?s 5
The Spartans (9-5) were held to three hits in the game as a pair of ill-timed errors in the top of the fourth led to four Nauset runs that gave the visitors the lead for good.
Designated hitter Brady McLaughlin was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Dan Hennessey had a pinch hit RBI single in the bottom of the sixth while Ryan Borders was 1-for-2 off the bench.
Masconomet 4, Beverly 1
Beverly had a chance going into the sixth inning, but gave up two unearned runs in the bottom of the frame. Dylan Stevens was the losing pitcher for Beverly. He was relieved by Anthony Morrissey.
Garrett Desmond?s RBI single knocked in the lone run for the Panthers (8-4).
?It was a good game by both sides,” said Beverly coach Dave Wilbur. “But it was tough to give up those two at the end.”
Georgetown 4, Lynnfield 3
After a three-run top of the first, the Pioneers (5-8) proceeded to strand 11 base-runners in a frustrating loss.
Sophomore Nick Aslanian pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing five hits before Nick Pascucci finished for Lynnfield, which left the bases loaded in its final trips to the plate.
