Boys’ Tennis Roundup: Double the fun for English

Lynn English grabbed two wins over Peabody Monday, 4-1 and 5-0. The teams finished a match from earlier this year, then played their regularly scheduled match right after.
The Bulldogs? (3-7) Joe Calnan grabbed two wins in first singles, winning the first match (6-0, 6-2) and the second match (6-2, 6-3). Brothers Eddie (6-2, 6-1; 6-0, 6-0) and Osayi Ayinla (6-0, 6-0; 6-2, 6-2) notched two wins each in second and third singles, respectively.
In doubles? play, the team of brothers Jarry and Johnson Ngandjui lost the first match, but then won the second (6-4, 6-1). The team of Andy Nguyen and Adnan Adnan also won their doubles? match (6-3, 6-0).
?The kids came to play today,” said English coach Kerry King. “They?ve all been making steady improvements and it?s starting to really show.”
Beverly 4, Lynn Classical 1
Beverly (5-4) won two singles? matches and two doubles? matches to beat the Rams at home. Peter Coletti (6-1, 6-3) and Dylan LeBlanc (6-0, 6-0) took the two singles? matches for the Panthers.
In doubles? play, Skyler Crean and Nick McPhail battled through three sets for a 1-6, 6-0, 13-11 win in the first match. Colin Oliver and Kyle Martin had an easier time in the second match, winning 6-0, 6-1.
Moses Ba grabbed the lone win for Classical, winning the third singles? match (6-4, 6-1).
St. John?s Prep 5, Xaverian 0
The Eagles (10-2) got the win at home over Xaverian despite losing their third singles? player to an injury. Andrew Cadigan, normally a doubles? player, stepped into the vacant singles? spot and won (6-0, 6-0).
?He played very well in that spot,” said St. John?s coach Mark Metropolis. “He may have earned the opportunity to possibly stay in that spot going forward.”
Scott Riester won first singles, 6-4, 7-6, and Mikey Prokopis took second singles, 6-2, 6-2. In doubles? play, the team of Mateo Jacome and Nick Salacci won, 6-1, 6-0, and the team of David Cunningham and Mike Cooke also won, 6-1, 6-0.Marblehead 5, Gloucester 0
Marblehead?s (9-4) Dimitri Vlassov had to battle a bit, but took first singles, 7-5, 6-2. Griffin Butterfield won his match, 6-2, 6-0, and Michael Forte won third singles, 6-0, 6-0.
The duo of Justin Faia and Garrett Tully took the first doubles? match, 6-2, 6-1, and the team of Corey Stein and Luca Fiori took the second, 6-2, 7-6.
Lynnfield 4, North Reading 1
The Pioneers (2-9) grabbed their second win in a row with a solid outing against North Reading. Lynnfield got singles? wins from Mike Romano (first) and Shreyas Kudrimoti (second), both scored 6-2, 7-5.
The duo of Ethan Forrest and Danny Bronshvayg won their doubles? match, 6-2, 6-1. Sam Forrest and Jose Garcia had to fight for their win, but they took second doubles, 2-6, 7-5. 7-5.Mike Alongi can be reached at [email protected]. Follow him on Twitter at @m_alongi.
