Girls’ Tennis Roundup: Classical squeaks past Beverly

Lynn Classical fought hard to come out with a 3-2 win over Beverly, taking all three singles? matches for the victory. The Rams? (11-2) Anna Athanasopoulos won the first match, 6-2, 6-0. Meredith MacDonald took the second match, 6-4, 6-4, and Kayla O?Brien won the third, 6-2, 7-5.
?It was really a thrilling match today,” said Classical coach Cathy Ellis. “The doubles were very evenly matched, they could?ve gone either way. It would?ve been nice to win 5-0, but we?ll certainly take this.”
For Beverly (7-4), the team of Carly Blau and Julia Silveria fought to take the first match, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. The duo of Danielle Tetrault and Allison Lewandowski also fought hard in the second match, eking out a tiebreaker win.
Lynn English 3, Peabody 2
The Bulldogs (5-8) grabbed both doubles? matches and one singles? match to scrape out a win over Peabody (5-8). After English dropped the first two singles? matches, Cindy Truong stepped up in third singles? and grabbed a win, 6-3, 6-0.
The doubles? pairings took it from there, with Jasmin Chhim and Lily Vu taking the first match, 6-3, 6-2 and the team of Victoria Say and Jennifer Benivades taking the second, 6-2, 6-4.
?Overall, everyone played really well today,” said English coach Lauren Mezzetti.
Kayla Hodas won the first singles? match for Peabody, 6-1, 6-0, while Eleni Petromelis took the second singles? match, 6-2, 6-4.
Game 1: Swampscott 5, Winthrop 0
Game 2: Swampscott 5, Winthrop 0
Swampscott (13-2) grabbed two wins over Winthrop in a doubleheader. Anna Raptunovich, Vivien Gere and Veronica Pyatigorskaya got the start in singles? play in both matches for the Big Blue, and they all notched 8-0 wins in both.
The duo of Anna Cilley and Maeve Austin also grabbed two wins, taking the first match, 8-4, and the second match, 8-3. The team of Juliette Albo and Anya Peterson won a doubles? match, 8-3, and the team of Michelle Snyder and Sara Cunningham won a match, 8-2.
Lynnfield 4, North Reading 1
The Pioneers (13-0) had to work for this one as they faced the Cape Ann League/Large leaders who were also undefeated.
Sarah Mezini and Kelley Nevils won, 6-0, 6-1, in the top two singles? spots with the clinching point coming from Katie Nevils and Olivia Skelley in first doubles (6-4, 7-5). Izzy Figucia added a 7-6, 6-2 win at third singles to complete the day.
Boston Latin 4, St. Mary?s 1
Senior captain Kelly Harrington got the lone win for the Spartans (7-10) in her first match back after missing time with a hand injury, taking third singles? 8-4.
Salem 4, Revere 1
