Boys’ Lacrosse Roundup: St. Mary’s drops heartbreaker to Spellman

Matt Fraser

May 13, 2015 by Matt Fraser

The St. Mary?s boys? lacrosse team came up just short in a hard-fought 19-18 loss to Cardinal Spellman on Wednesday at Manning Field. For St. Mary?s (8-9) coach Shawn Anderson, it was as good a back-and-forth battle as he has seen. But his Spartans could not hold onto a 13-12 halftime advantage.
?I thought we controlled the whole game but in the end, Spellman battled a bit harder when it mattered the most and they deserve all the credit for doing so,” said Anderson. “(The seniors) have been with me for four years and have given me all they?ve got from day one. It?s too bad we couldn?t pull out a win for them.”
Seniors Nick Amenta, who had two goals and an assist, Rich Cadigan (four goals, three assists), Austin Frankel (two goals) and Jimmy Torosian (two goals, assist) had strong showings for the Spartans, but they were led by junior Dante Maribito who finished with five goals.
Anthony DelVecchio, Andrew Kreamer and Nico Scalli added a goal each for St. Mary?s, which got 15 saves from Brendan Donahue.
