Tennis Roundup: St. Mary’s rallies past Swampscott

The St. Mary?s boys? team continued its winning ways with a 3-2 win at Swampscott. The Spartans (13-1) dropped the first singles? match before rattling off three straight wins for the victory.
Matt McManus took the second singles? match for St. Mary?s, 6-3, 6-1, and Patrick Morin-Plante took the third, 6-2, 6-0.
In first doubles?, the team of Noah Camelo and Conor Foley sealed it for St. Mary?s with a win, 6-1, 6-0.
For Swampscott (6-5), Matt Jacobs got the lone singles? win, 6-0, 6-0. The team of Tyler Gateman and Ray Rosa won the second doubles? match, 6-0, 6-2.BOYS? TENNIS
Winthrop 3, Lynn English 2
Winthrop (6-5) lost two singles? matches but still recovered to beat Lynn English (3-8). Noah Hodgkins won the first singles? match for the Vikings, 6-2, 6-0, before English took the next two.
The Vikings then swept the doubles? matches, with the duo of Robbie Miles and Matt Sennott taking the first, 6-4, 6-0, and the pairing of Jake LaFratta and Corey Cherico winning the second match, 6-2, 6-0.
?Everyone played a solid match today,” said Winthrop coach Marie Finn. “They?ve all been playing really smart tennis.”
The Bulldogs? two singles wins came from brothers Eddie and Osayi Ayinla. Eddie won second singles?, 6-1, 6-0, and Osayi won the third, 6-2, 6-1.
St. John?s Prep 4, St. John?s (Shrewsbury) 1
The Eagles (11-2) took two singles? matches and two doubles? matches in the road win. Mikey Prokopis won the second singles? match, 6-2, 6-3. Andrew Cadigan followed it up with a win in third singles?, 7-5, 6-1.
The Eagles took both doubles? matches, with the team of Mateo Jacome and Nick Salacci winning the first match, 7-5, 6-3. The duo of David Cunningham and Mike Cooke took the second match, 6-1, 6-0.
Marblehead 3, Boston Latin 2
Marblehead (10-4) dropped two matches, but was still able to eke out the road win. Dimitri Vlassov got it started with a win in first singles?, 6-3, 6-3. Griffin Butterfield followed it up with a win in second singles?, 6-2, 6-3.
The Magicians dropped the next two matches before the team of Corey Stein and Luca Fiori won the deciding match in second doubles, 6-4, 6-2.GIRLS? TENNIS
Marblehead 5, Gloucester 0
The Magicians (11-2) notched another Northeastern Conference win after blanking Gloucester. Kelly Mealey and Julia Channing each won their singles? matches, 6-0, 6-0. Megan Ryan also won her singles? match, 6-1, 6-0. The team of Hannah Cohen and Meagan Hanratty won the first doubles? match, 6-1, 6-1.
