School Roundup: St. Mary’s boys tennis clinches share of CCL title

The St. Mary?s Spartans boys? tennis team clinched at least a tie for the Catholic Central League title with a 4-1 win on the road against Cardinal Spellman. It is the first CCL title for the school in boys? tennis.
?It really is a great feeling,” said St. Mary?s (14-1, 9-0 CCL) coach Brian Carlson.
The Spartans took two singles? matches and two doubles? matches. Brady Ryan won the first singles? match, 6-1, 6-2, and Matt McManus took the second match, 6-0, 6-0.
The doubles? pairing of Noah Camelo and Conor Foley won, 6-1, 6-1. The team of Jimoh George and Jonah Lezama battled for a win in second doubles?, 6-2, 0-6, 7-5.
The Spartans have three matches remaining, including against second-place Austin Prep on May 27 that could potentially decide the outright winner of the conference.BOYS? TENNIS
Lynn Classical 4, Revere 1
Lynn Classical?s (7-9) Calvin Cheung and Moses Ba each won their singles? matches, 6-0, 6-2. Alex Chea and David Hincapie took the first doubles? match, 6-4, 6-4, and the pairing of Patrick Gibb and Simon Kazimierczyk took the second match, 7-6, 7-6.
St. John?s Prep 4, Catholic Memorial 1
St. John?s (12-2) Mikey Prokopis (6-3, 6-1) and Andrew Cadigan (7-5, 6-1) were the singles? winners for the Eagles. In doubles? play, the team of Mateo Jacome and Nick Salacci took the first match, 6-2, 6-3. The team of David Cunningham and Mike Cooke took the second match, 6-0, 6-2.
Gloucester 4, Beverly 1
The lone win for Swampscott (6-6) came from Matt Jacobs in first singles?, 6-0, 6-0.GIRLS? TENNIS
Lynn Classical 5, Revere 0
The Rams (12-2) got solid play all around. Anna Athanasopoulos led off with a win in first singles, 7-6, 6-1. Meredith MacDonald won the second singles? match, 6-1, 6-3, and Kayla O?Brien took the third match, 6-0, 6-1. The team of Shea Dunnigan and Briana Silva took the first doubles? match, 6-0, 6-0. Ashley Noel and Zoe Raymond won the second doubles? match, 6-1, 6-0.
Beverly 4, Lynn English 1
Sophie Claus took the first singles? match, 6-3, 6-1, for Beverly (8-4) and Caroline Joseph took the second, 6-2, 6-3. In doubles? play, Carly Blau and Julia Silveria won the first match, 6-1, 6-2. The team of Allison Lewandowski and Kira Kennedy won the second match, 6-4, 6-1. English?s (5-9) Cindy Truong took the third singles? match, 6-4, 6-3.
St. Mary?s 4, O?Bryant 1
The Spartans? (8-10) Christine Hallisey took the first singles? match, 8-5, while Ana de Bernardo won the second match, 8-2. St. Mary?s also swept the doubles? matches, with the team of Kristin Tansey and Julie Shea taking the first match, 8-2, and the team of Adelina Katzounos and Krysta Bertocchi taking the second match, 8-3. It was the Spartans final match of the season.
?We?ve got a lot of great tennis players returning next year,” said Spartans coach Jim McHugh. “The future looks bright for us.”
Marblehead 5, Saugus 0
Marblehead?s (11-1) Kelly Mealey won the first singles? match, 6-0, 6-0, while Megan Ryan took the second match, 6-1, 6-0, and Julia Channing took the third, 6-1, 6-1. The duo of Hannah Cohen and Meagan Hanratty won the first doubles? match, 6-1, 6-0, while the team of Jenny Norcross and Lindsay Walker took the second, 6-0, 6-0.
Swampscott 4, Gloucester 1
Swampscott?s (14-2) Anna Raptunovich won the first singles? match, 6-0, 6-0. Veronica Pyatigorskaya moved up one spot in the rotation and won the second singles? match, 6-0, 6-1. The team of Sara Cunningham and Michelle Snyder won first doubles?, 6-4, 6-0. Anya Peterson and Anna Cilley took the second doubles? match, 6-1, 6-4.
Lynnfield 5, Rockport 0
The Pioneers? (14-0) Sarah Mezini and Amanda Stelman each won their singles? matches, 6-0, 6-0. Izzy Figucia also took a singles? match, 6-0, 6-1. In doubles? play, the duo of Katie Nugent and Camie Foley won the first match, 6-0, 6-0. Kayla Collins and Melanie Richard took the second match, 6-0, 6-0.
Salem 4, Peabody 1
Peabody (6-7) got one win from Eleni Petromelis in the second singles? match, 6
