Behind a stellar start from Ivy Martin, Lynn Classical defeated host Revere, 3-1, on Wednesday, putting the Patriots? Northeastern Conference championship celebration on hold, at least for a little longer.
Martin, the Rams? (8-5 overall, 8-4 NEC) senior right-hander, held Revere (10-3, 10-2) in check throughout the contest, allowing one earned run on just two hits while striking out six.
?We knew it was going to be that kind of game from the get-go. (Martin) has a whole bag of tricks to keep hitters off balance with and we never solved her today,” said Patriots? coach Joe Ciccarello, whose own ace, Sabrina Palermo, also pitched well.
?(Palermo is) extremely efficient with throwing strikes so we knew coming in that our hitters had to stay aggressive. This is a huge, huge win for us,” said Classical coach Erica Richard.
It would ultimately be poor defense that cost Revere, as it committed a bevy of miscues, helping the Rams to a pair of runs in the fifth and an insurance tally in the seventh.
Victoria Correia?s RBI single in the sixth accounted for Revere?s lone run.

Archbishop Williams 6, Bishop Fenwick 4
Down five runs in the third, the Crusaders (9-6) fourth-run rally in the fourth wasn?t enough. Natalie Medros (1-for-3, RBI), Hannah Howell (RBI) and Jenny Nasser (1-for-3, RBI, run scored) contributed for Fenwick.?It was a great game, very competitive,” said Fenwick coach Paul Lyman. “We played well, and hit their pitcher a lot better than we did the first time we faced her this season.”
