REVERE – Nicholas Schaeneman, 27, of Chelsea was arraigned at Chelsea District Court Monday on a drunk driving charge after he crashed into a disabled vehicle in Revere early Saturday and injured two pedestrians, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.Conley said the injured people were the driver of the disabled car, who is a Lynn woman, and a passer-by who had stopped to help.Massachusetts State Trooper Brendan Murphy arrested Schaeneman after responding to the crash, which occurred at 2:10 a.m. on Route 1 South at the intersection with Route 60 in Revere, police said.Judge Michael Patten set bail at $15,000 and ordered Schaeneman to refrain from driving; remain alcohol-free; and undergo random alcohol screening in the event he is released on bail.Murphy reported that Schaeneman?s 2012 Honda Civic was driving southbound when it struck the disabled vehicle, a 2001 Civic, on the side of the road. The impact from the crash pushed the disabled Civic into the two pedestrians, who were standing near the disabled car.The other injured party was a 39-year-old Roslindale man, police said.?While speaking with Schaeneman, troopers detected a strong odor of alcohol and noted that his speech was slurred and his eyes bloodshot,” said Jake Wark, press secretary for the Suffolk County District Attorney?s office. “After failing a series of field sobriety tests, Schaeneman allegedly blew a 0.2 on a portable blood alcohol test. He subsequently blew a .22 on a test performed at the Revere State Police Barracks after his arrest, prosecutors said. Troopers located two small, opened bottles of vodka in the Civic?s center console and a case of beer in the trunk.”The Roslindale man suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital, police said. The Lynn woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and also was transported to MGH.Shaeneman was booked at the Revere State Police Barracks on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle; and a marked lanes violation. As a result of the crash, the right travel lane and the exit to Route 60 were closed for approximately 50 minutes.
