Girls’ Tennis Roundup: Classical claims NEC/North title

The Lynn Classical Rams clinched the Northeastern Conference/Large with a 4-1 win over Lynn English. The Rams took two singles? matches and two doubles? matches to seal the win.
Anna Athanasopoulos took the first singles? match for Classical, 6-0, 6-0. Meredith MacDonald followed with a win in second singles?, 6-0, 6-2. The first doubles? pairing of Shea Dunnigan and Briana Silva won, 6-2, 6-1. The second team of Ashley Noel and Lizzy Troisi also won, 6-2, 6-1.
?It?s very exciting,” Classical (14-2) coach Cathy Ellis said of clinching the division title. “All the girls are really psyched about it.”
The lone win for English (5-11) came from Cindy Truong in third singles?. She dropped the first set, but rallied for a win, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Lynnfield 5, Newburyport 0
The Pioneers clinched their second straight Cape Ann League. This is also the second straight undefeated season for Lynnfield (16-0).
Sarah Mezini and Kelley Nevils each won their singles? matches, 6-1, 6-1. Izzy Figucia took the third singles? match, 6-0, 6-0.
The doubles? team of Katie Nevils and Olivia Skelley took the first match, 6-1, 6-2. Katie Nugent and Camie Foley won the second doubles? match, 6-1, 6-1.Beverly 4, Salem 1
After dropping the first singles? match, Beverly regrouped to grab a solid win on the road. Madison Tremblay took the second singles? match, 6-4, 6-3. Caroline Joseph battled through a long third singles? match, but eventually won, 6-4, 1-6, 7-4.
Beverly (10-4) also took both doubles? matches, with Julia Silveria and Allison Lewandowski taking the first match, 7-5, 6-3. The duo of Taya Fasheed and Jane Healy took the second match, 6-1, 6-0.
Marblehead 3, Swampscott 2
The Magicians dropped the first two singles? matches, but they were still able to rally for a win. Julia Channing got the win in third singles? for Marblehead (13-2), 6-0, 6-0. The team of Meagan Hanratty and Hannah Cohen took the first doubles? match, 6-1, 6-3, and the team of Sammi Gilberg and Lily Frontero took the second, 6-4, 6-4.
