Lucas Harris has been the go-to man on the mound for Lynn English this season. On Wednesday at Fraser Field, the Bulldogs turned to their ace and he delivered an eight-inning complete game on 94 pitches to lead English past Lynn Classical, 5-2.
?Lucas had it going,” English coach Joe Caponigro said. “He was throwing strikes and the defense made the plays behind him.”
The Bulldogs (12-4, 11-3 Northeastern Conference/North) remain in a tie for first with Peabody. Classical (12-4, 11-4) is one game behind.
English grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third when Kyle O?Connor walked and later scored on a balk. The Bulldogs tacked on another run in the fourth as Carlos Cordero singled and scored on an error.
The Rams rallied in the top of the fifth to tie the game on RBIs by Tyler Way and Damien Earp. It stayed that way until the top of the eighth when Cordero singled with one out. He stole second and took third on an error before scoring on Briston Maynard?s fielder?s choice.
Harris followed with a single and stole second before Brett Molea?s two-run single that completed the scoring.Swampscott 13, Marblehead 6
Greg Collier went six innings and Ryan January had two hits, including a three-run home run, for the Big Blue. Adrian Espinal (two hits, two RBIs) and Collier (two RBIs) also contributed to Swampscott?s (12-4) offense.
Marblehead (7-10) had a three-run homer from Harrison Engstrom in the third inning.
Peabody 12, Revere 3
David Hoar went 3-for-4 with a three run home run and Matt Correale went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Peabody. Jake Gustin had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs, Tanner Moquin, Ryan Collins and Matt Gonick also had two hits for the Tanners (15-3, 11-3 NEC/North). Bobby Tramondozzi struck out seven and walked none over five innings to get the win.
St. John?s Prep 7, Malden Catholic 5 (8 innings)
The Eagles completed a perfect Catholic Conference slate, the first in the league since they did so in 1998. Ted McNamara hit two home runs, including a two-run shot in the eighth that was the difference. Nick Latham had a three-run shot in the first and Dan Rose homered in the fourth for the Eagles. Justin Foley pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for the win.
Beverly 4, Salem 0
David Drinkwater went the distance, striking out 10 and scattering four hits, as the Panthers snapped a four game losing streak. Beverly (9-7) got two hits and an RBI from Frank DeOrio along with a 1-for-3 day with an RBI from Nick Cotraro.
Danvers 11, Gloucester 3Andrew Dunn scattered seven hits with seven strikeouts and no walks over six innings as the Falcons (13-3) cruised. Timmy Unczur had three hits and drove in four runs.
