BASEBALL
St. John?s 2, St. Mary?s 1
It was a tight game between two very good teams as St. John?s edged out the victory.
Clay Yianacopolus threw a complete game, allowing just two runs on three hits, walking four and striking out three.
?He gave us a chance to win,” said St. Mary?s coach Derek Dana.
The defense behind Yianacopolus was outstanding, keeping St. John?s from having a big inning with the bats.
The Spartans (11-5) came out swinging after Yianacopolus retired the side in order with two strikeouts in the top of the first. Don Weisse singled, Nick Costanza walked and Brady McLaughlin came up with a big RBI double.
?I was happy with the way we competed tonight. That?s what we?ve been trying to do,” said Dana. “When we come to play and stay focused, we?re a pretty good team.”
Lynnfield 3, Ipswich 1
Nick Colucci went the full seven innings for Lynnfield, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out eight.
The Pioneers (9-9) scored all of their runs in the bottom of the first inning
