The Bishop Fenwick boys? lacrosse team punched its ticket to this year?s state tournament with an 18-5 win over St. Mary?s on Saturday. The Crusaders clinched a playoff spot with a game to spare this year, their first trip to the tournament since 2013.
?This is my second year here, and we missed (the tournament) by a game last year,” Fenwick coach Ralph Ruocco said. “So the kids are really excited to get in.”
Fenwick (9-8) had three players score five goals each: Chris Napolitano (five goals, four assists), Aidan Moulton (five goals, three assists) and Mark Nalesnik (five goals, two assists). Danny Hannon added two goals and Sam Mitchell scored one for Fenwick.
Dante Maribito led St. Mary?s with two goals. Nick Amenta, James Torosian and Anthony Delvecchio each scored one goal.
The Spartans (8-12) will miss the tournament this year, but coach Shawn Anderson remains optimistic.
?Of course it?s tough to miss the tournament, especially when you?re losing a lot of good guys this year,” he said. “But we?re up two wins from last year, and we have some solid pieces coming back. I think we?re going to be alright.”
