An unfortunate play in the eighth inning caused St. Mary?s to loss a close one to Concord-Carlisle, 2-1, on Monday. Mia Nowicki pitched a tremendous game, with four hits and nine strikeouts. “Honestly it was a good game,” Spartans (14-4) coach Colleen Newbury said.
Newbury wasn?t upset with the outcome, saying her team played well, only giving up one earned run. But an error on an overthrown ball to the plate allowed C-C to score an unearned run for the difference in the game.
Gloucester 8, Salem 7, 8 innings
It was a nail biter for Gloucester, which needed eight innings to secure the win on Monday. Carina Kennan struck out two of the first three batters to start the game. Sam Cominelli had a big hit for Gloucester (9-9), and Freshman Taylor Abbott drove the ball into no-man?s land winning the game.
Revere 3, Gloucester 2, 8 innings
Revere won the eight-inning pitchers? duel on Saturday. Alena Giuliano of Revere (13-4) hit a double to tie the game 2-2, and in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded, Juliana Cecere drew a walk to force in the winning run. This is the first time Revere (13-4) has been crowned Northeastern Conference champions back-to-back years.
Corning Tournament
Championship: Danvers 13, Peabody 0
Maddie Mucci pitched a memorable game for Danvers, clinching the tournament, while the Falcons? offense provided plenty of support.
?The girls hit the ball very well,” said Danvers (12-6) coach Tara Petrocelli.
It was a long day for all the teams in the one-day tournament.
?The girls were tired. We were all tired,” said Peabody coach ButchMelanaphy.
Despite the loss, Peabody clinched a spot in the tournament.
Consolation: Bishop Fenwick 11, Beverly 9
Lauren Hallice started the game for Fenwick (11-7) and Natalie Medros finished it on the mound. Some big hits came from the lineup to secure the victory.
Peabody beat Beverly, 15-9, in the first round, while Danvers beat Fenwick, 7-4.
