Lacrosse Roundup: Swampscott boys stumble against Gloucester

The Swampscott boys? lacrosse team already has a spot in the postseason in its pocket thanks to winning the Northeastern Conference/South title, which is a good thing following a surprising 14-10 loss to Gloucester at Blocksidge Field.
?It was a frustrating game,” Swampscott coach Todd Pierce said. “But I was happy with the way the guys dug deep and kept competing right to the end.”
The Fishermen (6-12) had the lead for most of the game thanks to a balanced attack led by three goals and two assists game from Winslow Lewis. Cormac Flickinger added four goals while Tommy Donahue had two goals and two assists.
Devin Conroy led the Big Blue (9-10) with five goals in his final regular season home game. Andrew Dove scored two goals while Jason Dignan and Sebastian Camelo had one goal.Saugus 12, Salem 10
The Sachems clinched a share of second place in the NEC/South and a state tournament berth. Chris Sanderson had three goals and two assists to lead Saugus. Joe Russo also had a hat trick and Mike DeBenedictis had two goals and two assists. Ron Jarosz had a goal and an assist with Joe Cucuzza and Stephen Wright also scoring. Jeremy Tringale had 14 saves in goal for the Sachems (8-8, 7-3 NEC/South).Cohasset 13, Beverly 7
Sam Abate?s three goals and two goals by Jordan Rawding led the Panthers, who finished the regular season 14-6, advancing to the Division 2 North tournament.GIRLS
Bishop Fenwick 21, Arlington Catholic 9
Merry Harrington netted eight goals and an assist for the Crusaders, while Colleen Corcoran added four goals and two assists and nine other players had one goal.
?We were a little rusty having not played and it was back and forth for a while before we took control,” Crusaders (12-5) coach Karen Guillemette said.Gloucester 28, Winthrop 18
Gloucester clinched at least a share of the NEC/South title and its first trip to the playoffs. Tess Destino led the offensive explosion with seven goals while sister Maggie added four.
Laura Johnson had five goals and Rachel Alexander had a hat trick and an assist. Lexy Lucas (three goals), Maggie Tarantino (two goals) and Sophie Caldwell (two goals, assist) also chipped in for Gloucester (4-12).
Masconomet 18, Beverly 9
Five different players scored goals in Beverly?s regular season finale. Meghan Henrichon, Maeve Blake, Grace Otterbein and Alicia Cecchini each had two goals with Elizabeth Musumeci adding the other for the Panthers (14-4).
?We made good decisions offensively when we had the ball,” Beverly coach Alyson Healey said. “Problem was we didn?t have it enough because Masco did a great job on the draws.”
