MARBLEHEAD – Two people, one of them a former reporter for New England Cable News, were struck by a remote-control drone taking pictures of the Memorial Day parade at Pleasant and Washington streets, near Abbot Hall, Monday, but neither was seriously hurt.Police said Steven Callahan, 56, of Westborough, was flying the drone over the parade when it struck the side of a building, and then plummeted towards the spectators, at 9:19 a.m. Monday.?Once at the street level, (the drone) struck the back of the neck of Scot Yount, 57, of Marblehead, a former NECN news reporter, causing a minor laceration,” said Officer Andrew M. Clark. After striking Yount, the drone ricocheted onto the right shoulder of Maria Yezzi of Kinderhook, N.Y. Neither Yount nor Yezzi wanted medical attention, saying they didn?t want to pursue the matter any further (including legal action).Callahan said he wanted to videotape the parade and never imagined that doing so would result in two people being struck. He said that he had flown the drone several times without incident.?He explained that it was poor judgment, and wouldn?t be flying the drone over Marblehead again,” Clark said.He added no charges were filed.Yount said licenses should be required before anyone can fly drones over crowds.
