St. Mary?s led by three runs heading into the bottom of the sixth when the Spartans? offense exploded for seven runs on the way to a 10-0 win over Bishop Fenwick Wednesday at Grace Rogato Field
?It was definitely a closer game than it looks,” said St. Mary?s coach Colleen Newbury.
Michaela Hamill went the distance on the mound, allowing two hits and striking out nine. She also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
?She?s had a tremendous year on the mound and at the plate,” said Newbury.
Katie Terban went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Vanessa Van Buskirk went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Emily Stephenson caught a great game for St. Mary?s (15-4), Newbury said.
Salem 6, Lynn English 5
A slew of errors led to five unearned runs for Salem, as the Bulldogs finished their season. Brittney Burrows had a big day for English, going 3-for-3 and making several nice plays in the outfield, said coach Jack Bartlett. Lindsey Lannon went 3-for-4, Sam Holey had two hits, and Grace Gately went 1-for-3 with a big hit for the Bulldogs (1-19).
Shanna Zeramby pitched in her fourth game in the last five days and allowed just one earned run.
?She was tired, but she still pitched plenty well enough to win,” said Bartlett.
Lynn Classical 6, Peabody 3
Tori Adams got the start for Lynn Classical, allowing just one earned run, as the Rams beat Peabody, 6-3. Offensively, Courtney Braswell stood out, going 2-for-4.
Brianna Silva went 2-for-2 for the Tanners, who finished their season 10-10.
It was senior night for the Rams (13-6) as they recognized their three graduating players, Ivy Martin, Jenn Ierardi and Taylor Ferraro.
Danvers 4, Swampscott 0
Scoreless after six innings, Danvers scoring four runs in the seventh on Kaitlyn McBride?s two-run triple and Maddie Mucci?s two-run home run.
Daria Papamichael was lights-out for the Falcons, striking out 10, allowing three hits and two walks.
Hannah Leahy gave up just three hits on the mound for Swampscott, but the Big Blue couldn?t get the bats going to give her any run support.
?I?m proud of the girls,” said Swampscott coach Frank DeMarco. “After an exciting weekend, we played six solid innings against one of the best teams around.”
Gloucester 4, Saugus 1
Despite playing great defense, the Sachems had trouble with runners in scoring position and couldn?t string hits together. Coach Jessica Lucier credits her entire defense with keeping Saugus in the game, especially center fielder Mikayla Niles and right fielder Jillian Cooper, who both threw out baserunners at third.
Offensively, Jessica Allen was the only Sachem with multiple hits, going 2-for-4.
Saugus ends its season with a record of 7-11.
?The girls played their hearts out,” said Lucier.Katie Morrison may be reached at [email protected]. Follow her on Twitter @KatieMo61.
