Beverly girls, Peabody boys top NEC track championships

The Northeastern Conference track and field championships were held last Saturday at New Balance Newell Stadium in Gloucester.
The Beverly team won the girls? side of the competition with 124 total points. Peabody, Marblehead, and Lynn Classical took second, third, and fourth, respectively.
The Peabody team ran away with the boys? half of the championships, racking up 175 points. Gloucester finished second with 107, Marblehead placed third and Lynn English came in fourth.
In the 100-meter dash, Lynn Classical sophomore Agnes Bangura won with a time of 13.44 seconds. Danvers? John Thomas (11.44) bested Peabody?s Phil Bynum (11.54) in the boys? 100 by a 10th of a second.
Lynn English senior Nneka Lloba nabbed first place in the 200 (27.82), beating out Swampscott?s Zoe Petty (28.34). Salem freshman Ricky Arias won the boys? 200 (23.11), followed by the Big Blue?s Frankie DiLisio (23.56) and Marblehead?s Mitch Norcross (24.20).
English sophomore Hugh Calice was the winner of the triple jump at 41 feet, 7 inches, topping Gloucester?s Jared Marshall (41-6). Marshall took the 110 hurdles (15.49), beating out Calice, who placed second (16.14). Marblehead?s George Goetz (17.40) grabbed third.
The Magicians? Carlyn McGrath won the girls? 100 hurdles (16.0), with Classical?s Devyn Astuccio (16.77) taking second. McGrath also nabbed first in the triple jump (33-07.25).
The Lynn teams excelled in the relays. Classical?s team of Jen Gaudet, Anna Wargo, Astuccio, and Bangura (51.72) narrowly bested English?s team of Brianna Maynard, Georgette Kotee, Faith Agbonsalo, and Lloba (52.39).
Doug Santos, Hunter Josselyn, Bynum, and Cedullo won for the Peabody boys (43.65), while English grabbed second place with its team of Daekwon Shepherd, CJ Hernandez, Jeremy Garcia, and Calice. English also secured a second-place finish in the 4×400 relay, as Kevin Francisco, Andy Choun, Joshua Osawe, and James Cabral (3:37.91) finished just behind Gloucester?s Kyle Manley, Dan Carpenter, Nate Evans, and Crawford (3:36.85).
English?s Hernandez came in second in the high jump (6-0), topped by Peabody?s Moisse Irizarry (6-2). Beverly?s Cassie Wahl won the high jump (5-2) for the girls.
Peabody?s Owen Brewster took the 400 (51.96), and Marblehead?s Chris Brady (52.22) and Jacob Wikar (52.23) finished neck and neck for second and third. Danvers sophomore Nicole White (1:00.42) won for the girls, as Peabody?s Macayla LaChance (1:00.50) and Amanda Andrews (1:00.70) finished second and third. Marblehead sophomore Eve Rice (1:03.67) came in fourth and Classical?s Wargo (1:04:04) and Gaudet (1:04.43) took fifth and sixth in a group of 20 runners.
Saugus junior Alex Kotkowski (57.82) and Peabody?s Christian Cedullo (58.18) topped the boys? 400 hurdles, and Peabody junior Cynthia Aroke (1:06.17) was the clear winner for the girls, finishing almost five seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Lynn English?s Elizabeth Rozon (1:14.15) finished fifth.
Marblehead?s AJ Ernst won the mile (4:32.64), beating out a duo of Peabody seniors, as the Tanners? Riley Dowd (4:41.18) and Jason Karakaedos (4:44.39) finished second and third. Beverly took first and second for the girls, as sophomore Abby Walsh (5:24.82) and senior Julianna Wesley (5:25.01) led the pack.
Gloucester?s Everest Crawford (1:59.38) outran 21 runners in the 800, and Beverly freshman Julia Curtin (2:21.96) won for the girls.
Danvers? Angela Caldarone (17-7.25) topped Wargo (15-11.50) and Aroke (15-08.25) in the long jump, and Goetz (20-5) grabbed a first-place finish for the Marblehead boys.
Gloucester?s Olivia Lantz (10:59.94) ran away with the 2-mile run, with more than 30 seconds separating her from the second-place finisher. Peabody?s Marcelo Rocha (10:02.13) and Marblehead?s Adam Linsky (10:07.16) placed first and second in the boys? 2-mile.
Swampscott?s Barry Tevrow (50-4) and Beverly?s Grace Sparkman (35-7.25) took first in the shot put. The Panther girls also took first in the discus, as
