Freshman Sam Mayblyum was the hero after he took the deciding match, 7-6, 6-2, in third singles to give the Big Blue a 3-2 win over Winthrop, securing one of the final state tournament bids for Swampscott (9-8) on the last day of the season.
?Finally, the weight is off,” said Swampscott coach Neil Whitehouse. “Now we can take a breather and prepare for the tournament.”
Swampscott swept the singles matches, with star junior Matt Jacobs taking the first match, 6-0, 6-0. Ian Crimmins followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the second match.
?It?s been kind of a roller-coaster season,” said Whitehouse. “We started out slow, then we really got going, then we took a step back. But all the guys really pulled together and battled through it.”

Nick Salacci and Andrew Cadigan grabbed the win in the first doubles match, 6-1, 7-6. Mateo Jacome and David Cunningham took the second match, 6-2, 6-1.
With a win, St. John?s (13-5) will clinch a share of the Catholic Conference title with BC High.

St. Mary?s was only able to get one doubles? match in before a rain delay. The match will be continued today at 4 p.m.
Jonah Lezama and Jolssen Rodriguez lost their match, 2-8.

The Magicians ended their season with a shutout to finish their Northeastern Conference/Large season with a 15-0 record, 17-4 overall.
Dimitri Vlassov took the first singles match, 6-3, 6-0. Griffin Butterfield took the second match, 6-2, 6-0, and Michael Forte won the third match, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles, Felix Livtak and Sam Orenstein won the first match, 6-0, 6-1. Jake Driscoll and Mike Conlin had a much tougher battle at second doubles, fighting back from down twice 4-5 to get a 7-5, 7-5 win.
