Born and raised in Lynn, Jack Noseworthy always dreamed of a life on screen. Nearly 30 years later, with 23 films and 18 television shows on his resume, the talented actor continues to thrive in the ever-changing world of Hollywood.?Acting is a joy,” said Noseworthy. “And coming from Lynn is actually something that drives me and gives me a really solid foundation. I?ve always felt it was something that gave me my strength.”Noseworthy?s latest role is in the television miniseries “The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe,” starring Kelli Garner and Susan Sarandon. The world premiere is Saturday at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.?Marilyn was a doctor-phile,” said Noseworthy, who plays the role of Monroe?s psychiatrist – Dr. Alan DeShields – and is the movie?s only fictional character. “She had lots of doctors and was always interviewing new therapists.”The movie opens with Noseworthy?s character interviewing Monroe, and the two explore the relationship between the starlet and her mother.?My character represents all of her psychiatrists,” he said. “She starts talking to me and subsequently goes into the story of her life. It?s really about the relationship between Marilyn and her mother, and you keep coming back to this therapy session where she?s telling me about her life story.”The movie was shot in sequence in a studio in Toronto, but the set was rebuilt to the exact specifications of Monroe?s Brentwood, Calif., home – a house she bought, fittingly, on the recommendation of her psychiatrist.?The movie really became about the relationship and the conversation between Marilyn and Dr. DeShields,” he explained. “After all my research and studying of addiction therapy, it?s very satisfying to see how the entire film came together.”Noseworthy studied at the Boston Conservatory after graduating from Lynn English High School, then went straight to New York in 1987 for the chance to act on Broadway. He moved to Los Angeles in October of 1990, and remained on the West Coast for 13 years before returning to New York City for a role in the John Lithgow-starred musical, “Sweet Smell of Success.” He still fondly recalls his roots here in Lynn.?I?ll never forget where I came from,” he said. “It?s something that fuels me, because I?m super proud of it. There have been times when I?m on set, like when I was doing a scene with Harvey Keitel in Italy (for the movie “U-571″), and I thought to myself, ?Is this really happening? Didn?t I just graduate from Lynn English??”A seasoned actor, Noseworthy remains in love with the craft.?Acting in a movie, television show, or theater, that is a joy,” he explained. “I?ve trained to do that for my whole life, but the only time it is hard is when you are in pursuit of work and it seems to be eluding you. But hopefully those times are few and far between.”The key to success for an actor, Noseworthy said, is overcoming failure.?Failure is when you really learn what you?re made of,” he said. “Whether it?s a job that doesn?t meet your expectations or it?s a role you went after really hard and didn?t get, that?s when you learn.?Until that happens, you don?t know how much you really want to do this – but that?s when I said to myself, ?I can do this and I can do it well.? I just needed to find the outlet and people who would allow me to do it at the level I wanted.”Noseworthy is ready to embrace whatever the future holds in his acting career, but his ultimate goal is to work on a long-running series.?I like the idea of working with the same people every day,” he said. “I like the idea of creating a family, and I like the idea of exploring the possibility of playing the same character over a long period of time. That is something I?m always shooting for and always optimistic about coming into my life.”Justin Barrasso may be reached at [email protected]. Follow him on Twitter at @JustinBarrasso.
