Lynn Classical and Beverly fans were treated to some extra softball on Friday, as it took 11 innings for the Panthers to top the Rams, 3-2, in the final game of each team?s regular season.
Both pitchers went the distance, as Tori Adams allowed two earned runs on seven hits for Classical (13-7) and Jackie Pia got the win for Beverly (11-9).
Ally Pia drove in the game-winning run with a slap infield single. She went 2-for-4. Olivia George also had a good day at the plate for Beverly, going 2-for-5 with an RBI.
The Rams? offense stranded 12 runners on base. Ally Dunnigan had a big game offensively, going 3-for-4.
?We kind of beat ourselves today,” said Classical coach Erica Richard. “We made some huge baserunning mistakes and couldn?t come up with the big hit when we needed it. But (Adams) really kept them on their toes, and our defense played really well behind her.”
Revere 15, Waltham 0 (5 innings)
It was a senior night to remember in Revere, as the Patriots scored 15 times in the fourth frame to beat Waltham in five innings.
Revere (15-4) sent 19 batters to the plate in the big inning. Senior captain Christina Stella batted three times and hit two singles and a double. She went 4-for-4 with two doubles on the night. Freshman Alina Giuliano went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and senior captain Victoria Russo went 2-for-4.
?Their pitcher had a changeup or curveball kind of offspeed pitch, and we kept getting under it or on top of it,” said Revere coach Joe Ciccarello. “Then we exploded.”
Senior captain Sabrina Palermo was outstanding on the mound, facing 15 batters and striking out 11.
Arlington Catholic 6, Bishop Fenwick 2
The Crusaders headed into the fifth inning with a one-run lead, but things fell apart for Fenwick, which committed five errors and allowed five runs to score in the frame.
Fenwick outhit Arlington Catholic, 9-5, but struggled to drive in runs, leaving eight runners on base.
Natalie Medros pitched well for the Crusaders (11-9), allowing three hits and striking out three. Of the five runs she allowed, none were earned. Lauren Hallis threw two innings in relief, allowing two hits and a run.
?Our pitchers were very good today,” said Fenwick coach Paul Lyman. “We played well, but one bad inning cost us. We weren?t able to get that key hit with runners on.”
