SAUGUS – Fire officials reported no injuries at a garage fire Friday night at a home on Fairmount Avenue.According to Chief Don McQuaid, firefighters responded to numerous 911 calls, reporting a garage/building fire and possible explosion, at 5:12 p.m. Friday. The owner, Margery Hunter, of 76 Fairmount Ave., was not home.Fire officials at the scene said there was no indication of what caused the blaze, but it was determined to be accidental.?The fire was mostly contained in a 2?-story garage, but it was a heavy fire on arrival,” McQuaid said Sunday afternoon. “Two camping trailers, parked next to the garage were also burning. The loud noise that people heard was actually propane from both trailers being released. Heat from the fire melted the vinyl siding on the house, but it didn?t actually go inside.”According to the fire incident report, the property loss of the garage (which McQuaid said needs to be rebuilt) and two trailers is $50,000, and the contents of the garage are $10,000. McQuaid said the usual storage items were inside, including a lawnmower, which wasn?t damaged, and propane and gas tanks.?The guys did a really good job of keeping the fire from spreading to the house and knocking it down quickly,” McQuaid said. “They cleared the scene by 7:55 p.m.”
