SWAMPSCOTT – The Town of Swampscott is seeking volunteers for 22 committees that have vacancies or members whose terms will end this year.”We’re really pushing outreach on this issue and trying to see what we can do regarding outreach for committees and boards,” Town Administrator Tom Younger said Wednesday. “These are important positions.”The Town of Swampscott annually appoints members to volunteer positions on various town boards and committees, which oversee various town functions or special projects. In an effort to promote civic involvement among a wider group of residents, Younger said the town is trying to spread word of the vacancies as much as possible. Residents who have no experience serving on a town committee, past committee members, and current committee members interested in reappointment are all encouraged to apply, according to a town announcement. The Board of Selectmen will be making committee appointments beginning in July.Committees with vacancies or members whose terms are expiring include: Andrew’s Chapel Committee; Board of Assessors; Conservation Commission; Council on Aging; Cultural Council; Commission on Disabilities; Earth Removal Advisory Committee; Finance Committee; Harbor Advisory and Waterfront Committee; Historical Commission; Historic District Commission; Housing Authority; Board of Registrars; Municipal Design Committee; Open Space and Recreation Committee; Personnel Board; Renewable Energy Committee; Retirement Board; Rail Trail Implementation Committee; Traffic Study Committee; Veterans’ Affairs Committee; Zoning Board of Appeals. The number of appointments to be made, the time commitment required, and the preferred qualifications varies from committee to committee.Anybody interested in appointment to any committee is asked to fill out a volunteer form that can be found on the left side of the town website www.town.swampscott.ma.us or write to the Board of Selectmen.
