The North Shore Navigators got back to .500 after a 1-0 shutout of the Seacoast Mavericks at Fraser Field on Wednesday. The Navigators (3-3) got an outstanding pitching performance from Ryan McAuliffe of St. John’s University. McAuliffe went 6 ? scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and striking out five. With this performance, McAuliffe has lowered his ERA this year to 0.87.
The Navigators’ only run came in the third inning. After two singles and a walk to load the bases, Brandon Fischer knocked an RBI single to score Keith Linnane (Northern Essex). Mavericks pitcher Austin French managed to work out of the jam to avoid further damage.
Steve Hovey (Saugus, UMass Amherst) came in to finish the seventh for McAuliffe and went 1 ? scoreless innings. Speros Varinos (Tufts University) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save.The Navigators’ bullpen has been on fire lately, pitching 27 ? scoreless innings in a row.
