Dan Cacciola and Mikayla Perella were selected as recipients of the Chief Drew Award, given to the most outstanding male and female athlete at Saugus High, as the school’s boosters held their All-Sports Award night recently.
Perella was a captain of the soccer and indoor and outdoor track teams this year. She was selected as a Northeastern Conference all-star in all three sports and will attend the University of New Hampshire this fall.
Cacciola was a record-setting running back in football, leading the Sachems into the Division 4 North playoffs this season. He was a guard on the basketball team and was a member of the baseball team that reached the Division 3 North quarterfinals. The Endicott College-bound Cacciola was selected as a NEC all-star six times and is a member of the National Honor Society.
The Saugus chapter of the Knights of Columbus presented awards to the top male and female student-athletes. Ana Andrade was chosen as the female recipient. She served as one of the captains on the soccer team along with the indoor and outdoor track teams. Andrade also has performed in comedy shows at Saugus High and is a member of the National Honor Society. She will attend Harvard University this fall, majoring in pre-medicine.
Nick Monaco was the male recipient. A four-sport standout for the Sachems, Monaco was a captain on the track team for the last two years along with being a member of the cross country, soccer and basketball teams. He is a National Honor Society member and is an AP scholar with distinction. He will attend the University of Connecticut.
All Sachem athletes and cheerleaders received plaques noting their sports. In addition, 35 special award trophies and 15 scholarships worth $500 each were given out.
