North Shore Christian School students dig history class projectNorth Shore Christian School’s seventh grade ancient history class, taught by Todd McMillan, conducted an archaeological dig on campus. Students learned how ancient coins and artifacts were buried, then lost, and are still being found all over lands of the former Roman Empire. Students dug 2x2x1-foot squares and boxed in each dig site with dowels and twine.Authentic Roman coins from the 300s-400s A.D. were hidden in each dig site by the teacher and then filled in with dirt and rocks. The following day, students used tools to excavate and locate the ancient coins. The coins were then cleaned, examined under a magnifying glass and located using an online coin database. Each student got to keep his or her Roman coin.
