Panagopoulos principal at Sewell-Anderson

LYNN – A seasoned local educator with more than 30 years experience, Mary Panagopoulos is School Superintendent Catherine Latham’s pick to be Sewell-Anderson School’s new principal.Panagopoulos, a Lynn resident and curriculum and instruction teacher at Drewicz School, will succeed retiring Sewell-Anderson Principal Patricia Mallett on July 1.”She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to support differentiated instruction for all students and is dedicated and motivated to continue excellent academic successes seen at the Sewell-Anderson School,” said Latham.Educated in Lynn Public Schools, Panagopoulos received a Bachelor of Arts in education from Lesley College and master’s degree from Salem State College. She holds several state education licenses and certifications and coordinates state comprehensive testing at Drewicz and has served as the school’s acting principal.She coordinated the School Department’s summer tutoring program for three years, working with local agencies and home day care providers.”Over her years in education she has developed excellent relationships throughout the Lynn Public Schools and with our community partners,” Latham said.During her career, Panagopoulos worked at Connery, Drewicz, Harrington, Ingalls, Shoemaker and Tracy schools.Mallett has worked as a local educator for more than 40 years, including nine years as Sewell-Anderson principal.School Committee members praised Mallett at Thursday’s meeting, with member Patricia Capano telling her, “You left Sewell-Anderson a better place.”
