PEABODY – No injuries were reported when a vehicle crashed through a Surrey Lane home Monday night.A 17-year-old allegedly drunk driver, who fled the scene in his vehicle after crashing through the house, apparently walked back to retrieve his license plate and front bumper at 10:03 p.m.The Magnolia Terrace resident was arrested and charged with operation under the influence of liquor; leaving the scene of property damage; and a marked lanes violation, according to Peabody Police Capt. Dennis Bonaiuto. He said the driver wasn?t operating after restricted hours, which is during the overnight hours. The homeowner of the property at 32 Surrey Lane, Linda D. Panniello, said she had the living room windows open and had seen the motorist speed up the street in a car later described as his grandfather?s black Honda when she was watching TV. She said the boy was traveling at 70 miles per hour. He then walked through the hole, which the motor vehicle accident caused, in his bare feet, acted non-chalant and called her a dude. She explained that she hid from the area by crawling into the hallway while attempting to alert her family members who were also inside the home. Panniello said she could smell the fumes as the car approached. She said the juvenile was in no condition to explain himself when he returned to retrieve the items from his grandfather?s vehicle.?He was too drunk,” she said. “His excuse was that his father just died. That?s sad, but that?s no excuse.”Panniello estimated the damage to be $40,000 to $50,000. The front porch has to be rebuilt along with the living room windows, she said.Although she was in shock, she saw it coming.?I knew he was aiming towards the house,” she said. “Even my poor dog with arthritis flew over the couch. He knew something was wrong.”She said she is petrified and probably will never stay in the living room again. She intends on selling her property after restoration is complete.Panniello said speeding isn?t uncommon to the area.?I haven?t slept,” she said. “This street is so dangerous. People speed by here all the time.”Firefighter John Bator, who was on the scene, said the driver was already in the police car when his engine arrived.?He originally tried to escape towards the Burke School down the street, but police caught him,” Bator said.
