On a rainy day in Boston, Danvers’ Carla Trodella finished second in the Boston Athletic Association 10K wheelchair women’s division race with a time of 1:04:07 on Sunday. She finished behind another Massachusetts woman, Cherie Blauwet of Newton.
Kenyans Daniel Salel and Mary Wacera were able to persevere through the rain and finish first at the fifth annual BAA 10K, claiming victories in 28:09 and 32:07, respectively.
In the men’s division, Salel made a decisive move in the final straightaway to pry victory from two-time defending champion Stephen Sambu.
Tony Nogueira of Glen Ridge, N.J., won the men’s wheelchair race with a time of 24:57.On the women’s side, Wacera overtook marathon ace Edna Kiplagat, also of Kenya, in the final mile to win by eight seconds. Temperatures were in the mid-60s for the race with light wind and rain throughout the day.
