LYNN – Kristen Siscamanis was a late addition to the Agganis All-Star South basketball roster, but she made her presence known right away. Her efforts earned her the MVP honors for her squad. Although her team fell to the North squad, 51-21, Monday at Lynn Classical, Winthrop?s Siscamanis scored more than half her team?s total points, with 12.
Siscamanis resumed her high school career where she left off, after being named the Northeastern Conference Player of the Year for the 2014-2015 season.
On Monday, Siscamanis led her team from the start. She won the opening tip-off then planted herself at the three-point line and hit her first shot. Her opponents then knew they had to stick on her like glue, but she couldn?t be stopped.
After being named her team?s MVP, she was all smiles to end her high school career with a “great accomplishment.” But she is ready to move on to her college career. Siscamanis will be attending Caldwell University in New Jersey in the fall on a full scholarship to play basketball.?I work to improve my game every day, whether it be in the weight room or pick-up games on the court,” said Siscamanis.
South coach Ignacio Oyola, who coached Siscamanis at Winthrop and in the Agganis All-Star game, has watched her mature as a student, a player and a young woman.
?I got Kristen as an eighth-grader,” Oyola said. “She deserves (the award) with her work ethic. She?s a great kid and student. She is what a student-athlete is.”
Siscamanis, who was a captain and the heart and soul for the Vikings, was most proud of her high school team?s accomplishments this season and how far the squad progressed after years of putting in work. Winthrop won the Division 3 North title and made an appearance at TD Garden for the Division 3 Eastern Mass. final where Siscamanis had 11 of her team’s 16 points in the first three quarters of the game.
