REVERE – Mayor Daniel Rizzo wants to bring the issue of road repair into the 21st century.Rizzo Monday announced the creation of a Road Repair Task Force that would provide his administration with new ideas to address growing infrastructure issues, such as potholes, new asphalt and road repair. The area has seen two of the harsher winters in its memory, and the roads have suffered. Chief of Staff Miles Lang-Kennedy said citizens, especially those who are trained in engineering, technology, communications or city government, will not simply report where the potholes are but brainstorm different strategies. Local universities and nonprofit organizations will join them, he said.Rizzo said he hopes residents with that sort of expertise will become involved. He also said the task force will focus on changing business processes, and exploring the use of new technology to improve the tracking, reporting and response time as well as the materials used.?We will rethink the wheel of road repair,” Lang-Kennedy said. “We?ll look at what other cities and towns are doing to see how we can make the roads better.”Lang-Kennedy said although it?s tougher to have summer meetings, one will be planned for after July 4. The data is scheduled to be delivered to the public in the fall, he said.To enroll, sign up at the Mayor?s Office at 281 Broadway, call 781-286-8111, or email [email protected] said road repair is a clear area that is in the needs improvement category.?Every day we hear of new technologies and business practices that are allowing cities to operate more efficiently and be more citizen-centric.” said Rizzo, “We need to bring our delivery of basic city services into the 21st century as well. One clear area that we can improve upon is road repair, which is why I am creating the Road Repair Task Force.”
