North Shore Cancer Walk to celebrate 25th anniversaryA quarter of a century ago, North Shore Medical Center started an event that it hoped would result in finding a cure to a disease that has affected many loved ones.Sunday, the center will be hosting its 25th annual North Shore Cancer Walk. The walk will commence at 8:30 a.m. at Salem Willows, rain or shine. The walk is approximately 10K, or 6.2 miles, with the halfway mark being the O’Keefe Center on the Salem State University campus. The walk is open to the public. Last year’s walk raised $900,000 with roughly 5,000 people walking for a cure. This is a special year for the walk, not only because it’s the 25th anniversary, but because its goal is to raise $1 million.Rose Fisher, who helped organize the walk for North Shore Medical Center, said, “We’ve added more festivities for the 25th walk. It’s going to be very robust for activities.” She added that Disney characters from the movie “Frozen” will be in attendance, along with the Cookie Monster truck.Interested participants can register at 8 a.m. Sunday or online at northshorecancerwalk.org.Calling all patriotic petsPull out your pet’s best red, white and blue outfit for the 13th Annual Patriotic Pet Walk on the Fourth of July.
