LYNN – You don’t have to be a little kid to appreciate the tones of the ice cream man as he comes around your corner.Ice cream is fun for all ages. And more than 150 elderly residents in Lynn found that out Wednesday when, thanks to a local nursing home, they got free ice cream right from the ice cream truck. The first residents to receive a break from the heat were the ones in King’s Beach Towers on Superior Street, off Eastern Avenue. It was one of five stops the truck made Wednesday, as it was ice cream social all over Lynn.Terry’s Ice Cream truck, which Carlos Rocha has operated for 13 years, did the honors. And the jingle of the tune that rang from the truck quickly got everyone’s attention at the senior-citizen complex. In an event sponsored by the skilled nursing facility of the Life Care Center of the North Shore, residents from St. Stephen’s, St. Theresa’s, the Lynn Senior Center and the Harbor Loft Apartments were also able to enjoy a warm summer day with free ice cream.Rocha teamed up with two current employees of the Life Care Center, Beverly Carr and Cathy Osmer, to assist in the distribution of the complimentary ice cream. Carr said, “We just wanted to brighten everyone’s day and reach out to the community and say thank you.”This is the first time that the Life Care Center and Terry’s Ice Cream has teamed up for an event like this, but after the event ended, Osmer enthusiastically said, “We had a really good turnout today. It was nice to put a smile on everyone’s face.”The Life Care Center of the North Shore has confirmed that it would like to have this event occur in the following months of the summer.King’s Beach Towers resident Beth Valdofsky said, “There is nothing better than ice cream on a hot day.”
