The Lynn Babe Ruth 14-and-under girls’ softball all-stars lost in the semifinals in the State Tournament in Plymouth this weekend.
Lynn was edged by Brockton on Friday night, 5-4. Jenna Tobin pitched well for Lynn and did not allow an earned run. Lynn scored three runs in the third when a Brockton error scored two and a passed ball plated another. In the fourth, Rebecca Walker singled and scored on Meghan Leavitt’s fielder’s choice.
The Lynn team was right back at it on Saturday morning against Raynham and lost, 19-5. Maggie McHale lead off the game with a single, Leavitt doubled, and then Ciara Collins knocked them both in with a double. Collins would score on a passed ball to give Lynn a 3-0 lead.
In the third, Leavitt and Collins both singled and would score on back-to-back hits from Tobin and Kayla Morrill. Raynham put 11 runs across in the fourth inning and added five more in the sixth.
Lynn faced Arlington on Saturday at noon in a must-win game to advance to the semifinals. Lynn’s offense came to life and they pulled out a 19-17 win.
The offense was led by McHale (three hits, four runs scored), Walker (four runs scored), and Collins (two hits, three runs scored).
Tobin started the game and was relieved by Walker, who held Arlington at bay for two-plus innings.
The win brought Lynn in to the semifinals against top-seeded Raynham later on Saturday. But Raynham’s offense again proved too powerful to control and posted a 10-0 victory in five innings.
Raynham put up six runs in the first and added four more in the fourth. “The girls all played great and never quit, but you could see they were a little tired,” said manager Pat McHale. “The girls gave everything they had in every game and practice.” Members of the 2015 14U Babe Ruth girls softball All-Stars are: Sharliz Bonafacio, Lauren Wilkinson, Rebecca Walker, Emily Collins, Victoria Hobbs, Maggie McHale, Ciara Collins, Jenna Tobin, Renee Walker, Samantha St. Ives, Meghan Leavitt, Jodi Palumbo, Pam Dimas, Kayla Morrill.
