LYNN – Wyoma launched an offensive attack to eliminate Lynn Shore from the District 16 Little League All-Star tournament, 10-1, at home on Thursday.
Wyoma?s bats came alive, as it scored in every inning but the fourth. Leadoff batter Jared DeFillipo drove in half of Wyoma?s 10 runs, going 3-for-4 with a double and two singles.
Shawn Anderson knocked in Wyoma?s first run in the first. Ryan McMahon doubled and scored in the second. Wyoma opened things up in the third, plating six, and adding four more in the fifth to end the game under the mercy rule.
Nicholas Galeazzi tripled and scored, Billy Norcross scored twice, and Jackson Nickoleu doubled and scored.
?The kids came to play tonight,” said Wyoma coach Rick Anderson. “We had our backs against the wall, against a good Lynn Shore team, and they knew they had to bring the bats because we didn?t hit too well the other night.
?We put the bat on the ball pretty well tonight. Top of the lineup did awesome, middle of the lineup did well, and actually the last two batters scored some runs as well. So it was one through nine, or one through 13 really, that did a good job.”
?They beat us up,” said Lynn Shore coach Mark Sullivan. “It was a close game for a while, and we definitely battled, but they finished it off in the fifth.”
On the mound, Jack Hogan got the job done for Wyoma. Lynn Shore?s Antonio Smith had Lynn Shore?s only hit, an infield single in the third. Hogan ran out of pitches with two outs in the fifth, and Lucas Fritz took over to secure the last out of the inning. Hogan struck out six and walked two on the night.
?He?s one of the harder throwers and one of the better pitchers in the league,” said Anderson. “We knew he?d be ready for us and he did a great job tonight. He?s a big kid, and he?s used to this mound here, which helps.”
On the other side, Lynn Shore starter Ray Contreras battled.
?They were hitting him, but I thought he pitched pretty well,” said Sullivan. “He pitched his butt off today, I wish we could have gotten the win for him.”
Though it?s the end of the road for the Lynn Shore All-Stars, it was a good experience for the whole team.
?We had a lot of fun, worked hard, got some good defense out of our outfield and great catching from Smith,” said Sullivan.
Wyoma stayed alive and will face Saugus National on Monday.
?I?m just happy for the kids,” said Anderson. “It was an all around great win.”Katie Morrison may be reached at [email protected]. Follow her @KatieMo61
