Participants receive individual attention customized to their personal development. Classes are offered in ballet technique, stretch and strength, improvisation, rhythm, storytelling through movement and others.”One of our primary goals is to encourage talented young dancers. The North Shore Civic Ballet provides scholarship support for young people who show the ability and promise to become dancers. An audition is required as is an application showing background, evidence of good work habits and financial need,” said Toni Matsu, treasurer and a member of the NSCB’s board of trustees.Scholarship applicants must also demonstrate a genuine passion and talent for dance. Award recipients are expected to make the dance schedule a priority, while maintaining average or above average grades in school. Consistent attendance and enthusiastic participation is expected in every class.”Scholarships give youngsters who might not otherwise experience the joy of dance a chance to do so,” said Judy Moynihan, a member of the NSCB’s board of trustees.Boston Pops conductor Keith Lockhart to help close out NSCC celebrationIn case you can’t get to Boston this July 4 to see Keith Lockhart conduct on the Esplanade, there will be an opportunity to see him closer to home at the Lynn Auditorium Oct. 1 when he will help close out North Shore Community College’s 50th anniversary celebration. The event, “An Evening to Remember with Keith Lockhart and Friends,” is a combined celebration of the college’s anniversary and Lockhart’s 20 years with the Boston Pops.
