MARBLEHEAD ? Will Hunter?s grand slam in the bottom of the fifth boosted the Lynn Babe Ruth 13-year-old All Stars to a 10-5 victory over Marblehead Monday at Seaside Park.
The score was back and forth in the first four innings but Marblehead scored four times to take a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth.
Lynn took charge in the bottom of the fifth with Hunter?s blast. “It was a key turnaround point for our team,” says Lynn coach John Nerich. “Marblehead took us out early, we had to reset our mindset and remember how we play baseball. I told the boys to be patient and wait.”
Sebastian “Sea Bass” Fishelli started the game for Marblehead and had four strikeouts and one walk. Jomar Moreta started for Lynn and struck out four while walking two. Jack Bentley and Emmet Janney relieved for Marblehead, and Tucker Marcus finished the game strong for Lynn.
Marblehead?s coach Ty Janney said he was “happy we hung in there and played tough, tight baseball, the wheels just fell off in the end.”
T.J. Zagarri was a clutch player for Marblehead, catching two fly balls in center field and stealing bases. “Great kid and player,” said Janney.
Coach Nerich said of his Lynn team, “Not one player sticks out, they make each other a team by the little things they do individually.”
