?It was one of those games where you hated to see either team lose,” Swampscott manager Joe Caponigro said. “Both teams battled right to the end. We were just fortunate to get a run and then hold them off.”
The game was tied, 1-1, in the third when Swampscott pinch-hitter Matthew McIntire ripped a two-run double. That margin held up until the fourth when Jack Bond belted a two-out grand slam to give Lynnfield a 5-3 lead.

Wyoma bolted out to an 8-0 lead in the top of the first but Winthrop rallied for 11 unanswered runs to carry a three-run lead into the sixth. Wyoma?s Billy Norcross? two-run single closed the gap to 11-10 before Shawn Anderson singled home the tying run.
Wyoma eventually loaded the bases with two outs but couldn?t get the go-ahead run home. That missed chance proved costly as Winthrop won the game in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out infield single.
?I was happy that we didn?t go down quietly,” Wyoma manager Rick Anderson said. “They kept fighting and that?s all we could have asked for.”
