Thanks to a solid pitching performance by Calvin Ingemi and timely hitting, the Peabody Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars beat Danvers, 11-1, in six innings in the Eastern Mass. tournament Friday night at the Bowser Complex.
Ingemi pitched all six innings, giving up just one run in the first inning.
Peabody was able to grab six early runs to take a commanding lead and tacked on more as the game went on. Jack Guiney and JC Espinal both hit doubles, and everyone else added base hits.
?We just had a lot of base hits today,” said Peabody coach Chip Guiney. “And we stepped up on the other side, too. We had a few nice pickoffs and some good defensive plays as well.”
Finally, with a 9-1 lead in the sixth, Espinal stepped up with the bases loaded and a chance to end it. He did, hitting a two-run double to invoke the 10-run mercy rule.
?We made the most of our chances out there today,” said Guiney. “The kids hit well and our defense was solid.”
