Despite holding a 4-3 lead after six innings, the North Shore Navigators gave up two runs in the top of the seventh and lost to the Pittsfield Suns, 5-4, Friday night at Fraser Field.
The loss went to Trevor Massey (Boston College), who came in to pitch the seventh and gave up two runs on three hits. Steve Xirinachs (UMass) got the start for the Navs and left after 4 ? innings. He gave up three runs on four hits while walking three and striking out nine.
The Suns took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third, but the Navs answered right back. The Navs loaded the bases for MJ Brown (Lee), who drew an RBI walk. On the next play, shortstop MacDaniel Singleton (Northern Essex) scored on an error to cut the deficit to one.
The Navs took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. After a walk and a single to start the inning, Kyle Devin (Rhode Island) knocked a two-run single to put the Navs ahead, 5-4.
But the Suns struck the final blow in the top of the seventh. They loaded the bases after a walk, an error and a hit batter. Then, first baseman Brendan Geary hit a two-run single to put the Suns ahead.
Suns’ closer Peyton Taylor came out and finished the Navs off, giving up just one hit.
Now 20-16, the Navs will play the Brockton Rox at 6 p.m. Saturday at Campanelli Stadium.
