The North Shore Navigators finished out the weekend and the first half strong. After dropping Saturday night’s contest against the Brockton Rox, the North Shore Navigators came back to sweep a doubleheader from theSeacoast Mavericks Sunday at Fraser Field.
Each game of the doubleheader lasted seven innings, as the Navigators had a game to make up before the All-Star break.
The Navs eked out a 3-2 victory over the Mavericks in the early game of the twin bill. The Navigators took an early lead, plating three in the second inning, taking advantage of an error by the Mavericks.
Starter Taso Stathopolous (Rhode Island) went 5 ? innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks, fanning five. Speros Varinos (Tufts) tossed a solid seventh, allowing one hit.
Chad Martin (Bowdoin) went 2-for-3 and Maxx Sheehan (Franklin Pierce) went 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
In the tail end of the doubleheader, the North Shore bats awakened in a 12-1 rout. Leadoff man Bobby Fischer (St. Thomas Aquinas) reached base five times, going 3-for-3 with two walks, driving in two runs, and scoring twice. Maxx Sheehan’s lone hit was a big one, as he blasted a two-run triple. Kyle Devin (Rhode Island) went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored. MacDaniel Singleton (Northern Essex CC) drove in three runs from the nine-hole.
John Lavoie (Saint Anselm) was strong over five innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk. Ryan McAuliffe (St. John’s) closed the door with two scoreless innings.
The Navs managed just three hits against the Rox on Saturday as they fell, 4-1, in Brockton. Devin had two of those hits, while Giovanni Dingcong (St. Thomas Aquinas) chipped in with a triple. Tim Superko (Tufts) took the loss, allowing three runs over five innings and issuing seven walks.
The Navs finish the first half with a 22-17 record in third place in their division. Six members of the Navigators will be present for the Futures League All-Star Game, which will be played on Tuesday at Fraser Field.
