LYNN – The top half of the Wyoma Red Sox? lineup gave the team a huge boost, cruising to an 8-3 victory over the East Lynn Giants in the Lynn City Series on Monday at Kiley Park.
Wyoma?s Shawn Anderson had two home runs, a two-run shot and a solo homer, and singled to drive in a total of four runs.
?That was a first for him,” Wyoma manager Rick Anderson.
Also a first for the Red Sox was leadoff hitter Anthony Marino?s solo home run in the fourth inning.
?He put a nice swing on it and just drove it out of here,” said Anderson. “He was very excited.”
The Red Sox did their damage early, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings. In each frame, it was the top three hitters in the lineup that came around to score. Marino scored three runs with a 2-for-3 day and Billy Norcross scored twice and drove in a run with two singles.
?The bats in the top of the order got the big hits,” said Anderson. “(Norcross) had a couple of hits that really sparked us.”
?They have a top-of-the-line lineup,” said East Lynn coach Steve Curley. “They are a very good team both offensively and defensively.”
Wyoma starter Norcross shut down the East Lynn bats for the first three innings. The Giants grabbed a run off him in the fourth as Anthony Mateo singled and advanced to third on Nolan Mulcahey?s double. Mateo came home on the throw back to the infield and was caught in a rundown, but slid underneath the pitcher?s tag at home.
Norcross pitched into the fifth but was lifted after one batter.
?He was great, his curveball had kids off balance all day,” said Anderson. “I took him out at 65 pitches in case we need him later this week. I was a little nervous taking him out, but I figured we had a big enough lead.”
Marino came in an allowed two runs. Leadoff hitter Sannel Castro laced a double to center after Preston Archer reached on a fielder?s choice, and they both scored on Ryan Curley?s single.
Deirian Arias got the start on the mound for East Lynn and struck out eight in 4 ? innings. Mateo took over with an out in the fifth as Arias? pitch count forced him out of the game. Mateo struck out the only two batters he faced.
?We played very well against a tough team,” said Curley. “We just didn?t have any timely hitting.”
Wyoma will play the Pine Hill Reds on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. at Kiley Park. East Lynn will play Wednesday at 5:45 at Kiley Park.
