LYNN – If you hear helicopters hovering around Lynn English Thursday, don?t worry. Nothing?s going on except that Hollywood has returned to the city.Rose City Pictures will be filming the latest scenes from the movie “Central Intelligence,” starring The Rock and Kevin Hart. And part of the scene involves helicopters taking off and landing on the front lawn of the school from 8 p.m. Thursday night to approximately 12:30 a.m.The city has become a popular site for location filming, and, said state Rep. Brendan Crighton, one of the reasons is the film industry tax credit. And that is why the state Legislature has shown little interest in Gov. Charlie Baker?s plan to do away with it.?No formal vote on it has been taken,” Crighton said. “But I don?t see any real support for it.?We had public hearings, and I testified that (the film industry) has been good for Lynn, and that I?m in favor of keeping the tax credit.”Crighton said there?s a misconception that the tax credit benefits only big stars and production companies.?But,” he said, “there are a lot of other people who come in here: carpenters, people who design sets ? it isn?t just the stars. And it creates a lot of reciprocal benefits to the economy. There are all kinds of reasons to keep it.”The filming at English will also necessitate some road closures and restrictions. Street parking will be closed to traffic starting at about 3 p.m., and Goodridge Street and Memorial Park Avenue will be closed to traffic beginning at 7 p.m.The city will be working with the police department to facilitate road closures on the day of filming.Filming is also scheduled at Lynn English High School on July 21-July 28, however, parking and roads will not be affected. The following closures and restrictions are expected for Thursday:? Memorial Park Avenue will be closed on the section adjacent to English from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m.? Goodridge Street will be closed from Chestnut Street to Tracy Avenue from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m.? Access to Goodridge Street will be prohibited from the following streets from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m.: Goldthwaite Street, Clovelly Street, Rowell Avenue, Graves Avenue. Residents will be able to come and go on those streets from Western Avenue.? There will be no parking on both sides of Memorial Park Avenue from No. 31 to Goodridge Street from 3 p.m. to 4 a.m.; and no parking on both sides of Goodridge Street from Memorial Park Avenue to Graves Avenue from 3 p.m. to 4 a.m.?The cast and crew is very excited to film in Lynn,” said Jeremy Fiske, assistant location manager, “and it?s only through the continued support of neighborhoods like yours that the Massachusetts film industry can continue to grow and thrive.”
