The North Shore Navigators remained unbeaten in the second half of the season with wins on both Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, they defeated the Torrington Titans, 3-2, and on Sunday they held on to defeat the Seacoast Mavericks, 10-7.
With the wins, the Navigators extend their win streak to six games and improved to 26-17 on the season.
On Saturday, it was Christmas in July Night at Fraser Field. All proceeds of the night went to the Lynn Christmas parade. Over 1,000 people came out to support the cause and to cheer on the Navigators.
Finding themselves down, 2-0, in the eighth inning, the Navigators offense, highlighted by RBI singles from Chad Martin (Bowdoin) and MJ Brown (Lee), pushed across three runs to take a 3-2 lead.
Thomas Lane (Boston College), Rob DiFranco (Bates), and Speros Varinos (Tufts) were strong out of the bullpen again for the Navigators as they combined for 4 ? innings of scoreless baseball to preserve the 3-2 win.
On Sunday, it was the offense that won the game for the Navigators as they exploded for 10 runs on 13 hits to beat the Mavericks at Leary Field in Portsmouth, N.H.
The Navigators scored two runs in the top of the third inning highlighted by Martin’s RBI double to take an early 2-0 lead.
The Mavericks struck back in the bottom half of the inning with four runs to take a 4-2 lead. All those runs were unearned for Navs starter Cole O’Connor (Dartmouth), who went four innings, giving up five unearned runs while striking out four.
The Navs tied the game in the top of the fourth inning on sacrifice flies by both Martin and Mike Rizzitello (Dowling). They took the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Richie Fecteau (Salem State) hit a 2-run single to make it 6-4.
After the Mavericks got a run back in the bottom half of the inning, Brown added to the lead with a solo home run to give the Navs a 7-6 lead. Fecteau would add another run on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-5 Navs.
The Mavericks were relentless though, as two solo home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning once again brought the score within one run at 8-7.
The Navs added two more runs in the top of the ninth and Varinos closed the door for his league-leading 10th save of the season.
The Navigators return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Portsmouth to take on the Mavericks again at 6:30 p.m.
