Teams advance to Lynn Parks and Recreation basketball league finals

The East Lynn semifinals of the Lynn Parks and Recreation Dept’s summer basketball league were held on Wednesday at Keaney Park.
In the elementary school division, DNR General defeated William Trahant’s team, 32-26, thanks to 10 points from Taj Purter. Omri Merryman and Rowan Merryman combined for eight points for William Trahant.
A. James Lynch Insurance’s squad defeated the Lazy Dog Sports Bar, 36-34, in a middle school semifinal. Edison Howard was the top scorer for Lynch with eight points while Abdul Barry also had eight for Lazy Dog.
In the high school division, Columbia Insurance defeated Neil A. Price’s squad, 73-71. Dave Methelus had 14 points to lead Columbia while Melvin Nieves and J.C. Moya had a game-high 18 points each for Price.
The three winning teams advance into Thursday’s championship round at 5 p.m. at Breed Middle School.In the elementary school consolation round, Jason Asemota had 16 points to lead the Lynn Firefghters’ squad to a 48-42 win over the Lynn Teachers’ Union team. In the middle school consolation game Tito Tavares scored 20 points for Buzzy Barton’s team in a 63-62 win over R.F. O’Sullivan’s team. In the high school division, John’s Oil defeated Solimine, Landergan and Rhodes Funeral Home, 82-74, as Jack Rodriguez scored 24 points.
