The North Shore Navigators clinched a berth in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League playoffs for the first time since 2013 after squeezing out a 1-0 win over the Torrington Titans at Fraser Field on Friday night.
Third baseman MJ Brown (Lee) crushed a double deep into the right-field corner, sending first baseman Chad Martin (Bowdoin) all the way around from first with the only run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Jamie Lauria (Mercyhurst) allowed four hits and three walks over five innings of work on the mound for the Navigators, but the baserunners did not faze him as he left the game in a scoreless deadlock.The Navs will open the final week of the season on the road Saturday night, taking the trip west to face the defending FCBL champion Worcester Bravehearts at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. Cole O’Connor (Dartmouth) is scheduled to make the start for North Shore with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
