The Marthas Vineyard Sharks (29-19) continued to pile up the runs on Sunday, scoring three runs in the last three innings, on the way to an 11-2 win over the North Shore Navigators (29-20) at Fraser Field.
A three-run triple by Cam DiScarcina and an RBI single by Kevin Brice helped the Sharks score four runs in the first.
Jon Mayer racked up three RBIs on three hits for Martha’s Vineyard. He tripled in the second inning, singled in the seventh inning, and doubled in the eighth inning.
Brian Rapp pitched lights out for the Sharks. The Navigators managed just two hits off Rapp, who allowed no earned runs, walked none, and struck out four during his three innings of work.
Starter Christian Bahlinger improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for Martha’s Vineyard. He allowed two runs over five innings. Bahlinger struck out one, walked two and gave up two hits.
Taso Stathopolous (Rhode Island) took the loss for the Navs. He allowed six runs in one inning, walked two, and struck out two.
The Navigators scored double-digit runs for the fourth time in their last 10 games on Saturday, rolling to a 11-4 victory over the defending Futures Collegiate Baseball League champion Worcester Bravehearts at Fitton Field.
With the win, the Navigators completed a season series sweep of a West Division opponent for the second straight night.
Each of the top five hitters in the Navs lineup posted multiple-hit games. First baseman Chad Martin (Bowdoin) led the way, finishing 4-for-6 with a run scored and two RBIs. Martin is now the third Navigator to post four hits in a game this season.
North Shore scored six runs on five hits and a pair of Bravehearts errors in a fourth inning in which11 men went to the plate.
Martin opened the inning with a single before MJ Brown (Lee) and designated hitter Kyle Devin (Rhode Island) each posted RBI doubles. After another run scored on a wild pitch that was sandwiched between the errors, Worcester called to the bullpen to relieve starter Joe San Felippo (Wheeling Jesuit).
San Felippo took his second loss of the summer after allowing five hits and six runs, but just three earned, while walking three and striking out four over 3.1 innings. Boston College’s John Witkowski allowed Martin to drive home another run with his second hit of the inning before striking out Brown.
Martin singled home Fischer in the sixth, while RBI base hits from Martin and second baseman Richie Fecteau (Salem State) and a double from Brown extended the lead to 10-0 after seven.
Cole O’Connor was outstanding on the Navs mound once again as he allowed just two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three in 7 2/3 innings. His outing matched the longest by a North Shore starter this summer.
The Navs are back in action on Tuesday when they take on the Nashua Silver Knights at 7 p.m. at Fraser Field.
