The North Shore Navigators were defeated by the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks by the final score of 8-2 Wednesday evening at the Shark Tank in Martha’s Vineyard. With the loss the Navigators fall to 20-10 on the season and remain a half game out of first place. The Navigators got the scoring started in the second inning when Chad Martin (Bowdoin) led the inning off with a single. Following a walk and an out Martin scored when Keith Linnane (Northern Essex) reached on an error by the right-fielder to make the score 1-0.The lead was short-lived though as the Sharks struck right back in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at one.The Sharks offense was far from finished as they scored once in the fourth, twice in the fifth, three times in the sixth and again in the eight to take a commanding 8-1 lead. The Navigators would add a run in the 9th inning but the Sharks would close out the game to preserve the 8-2 victoryNavigators’ starter Ryan McAuliffe (St. John’s) went 4.2 innings giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out one.Richie Fecteau (Salem State) was once again a bright spot in the Navigator lineup as he reached base three times in the losing effort. The Navigators will finish their season with three of their final four games at home at Fraser Field. The action begins on Thursday when they play host to the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
