August 6, 2015 by Thor Jourgensen

A former East Lynn man arrested Tuesday in Virginia faces a murder charge in Salem Superior Court today for the death of 25-year-old Swampscott mother Jaimee Mendez.Jason Fleury, 37, waived extradition following his arrest in Hampton, Va., by state and local police and was transported to Massachusetts on Wednesday to be held overnight in a State Police barracks.Swampscott police were involved in Fleury?s arrest following his indictment last Friday by an Essex grand jury charging him with murder.Fleury was arraigned in Virginia as a fugitive from justice. In an exclusive interview with the Item last Nov. 13, Fleury said he was with Mendez on the night of her disappearance a week earlier on Lewis Street, but he denied in the interview that he killed her.Mendez? remains were found on Kings Beach in Swampscott on Jan. 28, ending months of searching by police and Mendez? family. In the Item interview, Fleury described himself as a heroin addict and said Mendez was a go-between on drug deals.
